Storing peanut butter
How do you best store peanut butter? Here we explain!
Peanut butter tastes best within 4 months of purchase, after which the taste slowly decreases. Within this time you do not have to take anything into account for storage. With us, the jar usually does not reach this age, so there is rarely a problem 😋🥜
A standard supermarket peanut butter is stabilized, this is less natural but the advantage is that you do not have to store it in a special way.
We make our own peanut butter and do not add palm oil or stabilizers! This causes a layer of oil to form on our peanut butter over time. This is a natural process and the peanut butter does not have a shorter shelf life in terms of food safety. However, the peanut butter does become a bit harder.
To counteract that hardness you can do this:
- You can store the peanut butter in the fridge, but only do this if you are putting it away for more than 4 months. For eating, not refrigerated is much tastier.
- Another method from grandmother's time is to turn the jars upside down for a few weeks. This allows the oil to rise to the top and make the bottom of the jar less dry. Clever, huh?!
